Daewoo was a South Korean vehicle manufacturer and the automotive arm of the Daewoo Group, known for producing small and mid-sized cars, vans, and light commercial vehicles. It expanded rapidly in the 1990s with exports to Europe, Asia, and emerging markets due to affordable, value-oriented models. After the Asian financial crisis and heavy debt, the company was restructured and acquired by General Motors in 2001, becoming GM Daewoo. Many Daewoo models were later rebadged and sold globally under GM brands such as Chevrolet, and the Daewoo name largely disappeared from major markets.
