Zavod Imeni Likhacheva (ZIL) was a Soviet and later Russian vehicle manufacturer based in Moscow, best known for heavy trucks, military and industrial vehicles, and iconic state limousines used by Soviet leaders. Originating from the AMO plant and renamed after director Ivan Likhachev, ZIL produced robust commercial trucks, armored cars and bespoke VIP limousines throughout the 20th century. Production declined after the Soviet Union’s collapse and the company largely ceased vehicle manufacturing in the 2000s, though its vehicles remain notable for their historical and engineering significance.
