Pontiac was a car brand and division of General Motors, established in 1926 as a companion marque to Oakland and later headquartered in Pontiac, Michigan. It built a reputation for sporty, performance-oriented models such as the GTO, Firebird, and Trans Am, becoming influential in American muscle-car culture. GM discontinued the Pontiac brand in 2010 during its post-2008 restructuring, ending production and dealer support.
