Daewoo was a South Korean vehicle manufacturer known for producing affordable passenger cars and light commercial vehicles. It grew rapidly in the late 20th century as part of the Daewoo Group but ran into financial trouble during the Asian financial crisis; most automotive operations were acquired by General Motors in 2001-2002. Many Daewoo models were later sold or rebadged under GM brands or continued by successor companies, so the Daewoo name is less common on new cars today.
