American Motors Corporation (AMC) was an American automobile manufacturer founded in 1954 by the merger of Nash-Kelvinator and Hudson. AMC specialized in compact and economy cars and produced notable models such as the Rambler, AMX, Gremlin, and Pacer, later expanding into SUVs and off-road vehicles through its ownership of the Jeep brand. Facing persistent financial challenges, AMC was acquired by Chrysler in 1987.
