Daewoo was a South Korean vehicle manufacturer known for producing affordable compact cars, commercial vehicles and vans for domestic and international markets. Founded in the 1980s as part of the Daewoo Group, it expanded rapidly through exports and technology partnerships. Financial difficulties led to its acquisition by General Motors in 2002 and the company was reorganized as GM Daewoo (now GM Korea), though the Daewoo brand still appears in some markets under licensing. Daewoo models were generally noted for value and practicality rather than luxury.
